Description
This year’s setup for Black Coffee's Hï Ibiza residency features a large-scale, immersive oval LED structure floating above the crowd. I was tasked with designing a dynamic canopy system unfolding cloth. The structure opens and closes seamlessly as it opens, the fabric is drawn back in a calm, fluid motion, revealing the sky. Wind forces sculpt the cloth into constantly evolving shapes, translating invisible currents into fluid motion. The final result is a seamless fusion of stage design, simulation-driven movement, and immersive digital art, crafted to elevate the energy and rhythm of a Black Coffee performance.

Research and Development
The first step was building a rig to drive the cloth motion. Using Houdini's procedural workflow made the setup flexible and easily adaptable to changes in the overall silhouette. This allowed for quick adjustments to the form or the number of support structures when needed. The cloth mesh is generated directly from the silhouette, ensuring that any design modifications are automatically reflected in the final cloth geometry. Using Touchdesigner to get a sense of scale and to do a final check if clips would transition seamlessly into next clip was helpfull.
